A Byway for Your Senses
Do you enjoy crystal-clear alpine lakes created by glaciers and breathing in crisp mountain air as you drive through an emerald forest? Do you enjoy sweeping vistas? If so, Wyoming offers Snowy Range Scenic Byway — a byway for your senses as well as a premier byway for you to experience.
Traveling Through Medicine Bow National Forest
Snowy Range Scenic Byway travels 29 miles showcasing the beauty of the Rocky Mountains in Wyoming as it follows Highway 130 through the Medicine Bow National Forest in the southeastern part of the state. Just 80 miles west of Cheyenne, the byway starts near Centennial, WY and travels westward through the forest with high-altitude drives including Snowy Range Pass — the second highest Wyoming mountain pass at 10,847 ft above sea level.

Recreational Opportunities Abound
Enjoy views of granite peaks and alpine lakes, popular for trout fishing. The typography of the land lends itself to a wide range of recreational opportunities. Hiking trails that accommodate all skill levels lead to breathtaking overlooks — some panoramic views even extend into nearby Colorado. Horseback riding and mountain biking are great options, and keep your camera ready to capture wildlife along the way!

Enjoy Snowy Range Scenic Byway in Different Times of the Year
In the spring and early summer months, wildflowers abound. Bring your telescope or simply look up to enjoy Wyoming’s famously dark skies and incredible stargazing.
In winter, come for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling — there are more than 300 miles of trails and open fields to explore. Those alpine lakes freeze over, creating perfect conditions for ice fishing and ice skating.

Drive Time and Don’t Miss the Hot Springs!
Allow about 45 minutes of driving time in good weather conditions — more if you plan to stop and enjoy the views. Always check road and weather conditions and obtain any required permits. Continue on to Saratoga, WY to relax in the hot springs, grab a bite at local restaurants, or visit the town brewery.
